While flipping through some old car magazines I came upon an article on a coachbuilt C4 Vette. It was called the Guldstrand Corvette GS90.

It was based on a 1994 ZR-1 Vette. Stock 5.7 liter V8 was tuned to 475 hp. The whole body was redone in carbon fiber. Windshield was the only body part that remained stock.

Suspension was also redone. Rear leaf springs were replaced with coils and it had driver adjustable Bilstein shocks.

Performance supposedly wasn't too shabby either with 0-60 in just over 4 seconds and top speed of 200 mph.

Guidstrand was originally planning to sell 100 cars but at a cost of $134000 on top of a stock ZR1, there weren't a lot of interest and as a result only 6 cars were sold.

It looks more like a Dodge Viper mixed with Shelby Series 1 than a Vette.

The tail lights look rather tacky and I am not a fan of a "clown lips" paint job (although it was available in any color) but otherwise it looks awesome.

The interior looks pretty stock and those seats look awful.

It's a Vette of my childhood too but lets face it, it was a POS. 84' model had 205 hp 5.7 liter V8 and they didn't get much better until 1990. C3 were even worse power wise but at least they had the looks. These just looked like overpriced Firebirds.

Huh! I remember that thing from seeing it in one of the rags back in the day. Motor Trend, I think.

And as far as the interior goes, that is bone stock apart from the plaque. That pic is of a '94-'96 (earlier airbag wheels had 4 spokes), and I think those were the sport seats in those years.

The seats are actually far more comfortable than they look and still have more bolstering than anything that released from the factory between them and the recent C7. What's funny is that these seats are the "fat people" seats.

As for the Guldstrand...yeah, no, the sooner forgotten the better. No idea what was going on in the rear.
